Your talent, dedication, and passion for grooming shine through, and this achievement is truly well deserved. Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment!

    HISTORY OF CRUFTS

Crufts is one of the largest dog events in the world. No longer purely a dog
show, Crufts celebrates every aspect of the role that dogs play in our lives.
It has changed in ways that couldn’t possibly have been imagined when the
show was set up in Victorian times by the late Charles Cruft. Although it was a
very different event in 1891, Charles Cruft was a great showman and would
surely have enjoyed the size and scope of the event today, which is an
essential date in any dog lover’s calendar.
Crufts is ultimately a celebration of all dogs. It celebrates working dogs, which
are fit and healthy enough to perform the jobs for which they were originally
bred, such as those in the Gamekeepers classes and those participating in
displays including the West Midlands Police Dogs. The show hails hero dogs
through The Kennel Club Hero Dog Award, and crossbreeds are honoured
through the final of the Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year competition.
Rescue dogs are celebrated in the rescue dog agility competitions and the
speed and agility of dogs is clearly seen in ever popular competitions
including flyball and heelwork to music.
For prospective dog owners and dog lovers, Crufts is a prime opportunity to
speak to breed experts about how to responsibly buy, rescue, train and enjoy
life with your dog. The Discover Dogs booths offer a chance for potential
owners and dog fans to encounter hundreds of different breeds of dog,
including some they may have never heard of before!
And of course, with hundreds of trade stands selling anything and everything
for dogs and their humans, it is also a four-day shopping extravaganza.

  • A big congratulations to Christine Anderton at Crufts with Aria!

A big congratulations to Christine Anderton at Crufts with Aria!

    Christine at Crufts 2024 Competition
    Ettie & Aria Poodles

A big congratulations to Christine Anderton and Aria at their first thrilling experience at Crufts.

The challenge was enormous, especially since there were thirteen other entrants in a formidable class.

With a stronger bonded relationship, we hope to see them both back in the ring as soon as possible.

What Does a “Formidable Class” Actually Mean?

In the world of competitive dog showing, “formidable” isn’t just a descriptive word, it’s a reflection of the depth of quality and the intensity of the competition. When a class is described as formidable, it generally refers to three key factors:

    1. High Entry Numbers

At an event like Crufts, many classes have 15 or more entrants. In a class of 14, the judge is looking at a sea of “perfection.” The sheer logistics of being one of 14 dogs moving around a ring means the handler has to work twice as hard to ensure their dog catches the judge’s eye at exactly the right moment.

    2. Depth of Quality

In smaller local shows, there might be a clear winner and a clear runner-up. In a “formidable” Crufts class, it is often Champions against Champions. The difference between the 1st place and a dog that isn’t “placed” can be down to a “split hair” margin-as minor as the way a dog placed its foot or a slightly distracted expression for a split second.

    3. The Crufts Factor

Crufts is the pinnacle of the showing world. Because dogs must qualify to attend – usually by winning at other The Kennel Club Championship Shows -there are no “average” dogs in the ring. A formidable class means you are competing against the best of the best from across the globe.

This is the high-pressure environment Christine and Aria stepped into for their debut, making their composed performance even more impressive.

Absolutely Animals Wins Best Barnet at Crufts

Crufts, the world’s largest dog show, is a platform where dog owners, breeders, and groomers showcase their pets and their grooming skills. This year, Absolutely Animals made a mark at the show by winning the Best Barnet award with a black and white poodle groomed to perfection by Christine Anderton.

Christine, the daughter of Absolutely Animals CEO Heidi Anderton, has been honing her grooming skills for years and has been an important part of the Absolutely Animals team. Her expertise and creativity were on full display at Crufts, where she groomed the black and white poodle to perfection.

The Best Barnet award is given to the groomer who demonstrates the most creative, stylish, and perfectly executed grooming of a dog’s head, neck, and ears. Christine’s grooming skills were unparalleled, as she created a perfectly symmetrical and beautifully styled groom on the poodle.

The grooming process started with a thorough wash and dry, followed by the application of conditioning products to keep the coat healthy and shiny. Christine then used her expert skills to trim and shape the coat around the dog’s head and ears, carefully blending the black and white fur to create a beautiful and unique look.

The judges were impressed by Christine’s attention to detail, her creativity, and her skillful execution of the grooming. The poodle’s beautiful black and white coat, expertly styled by Christine, stood out from the rest and secured the Best Barnet award for Absolutely Animals.

Groom Team England 5th Place – Belgium 2011

At Absolutely Animals, we are always looking toward the future of grooming, but today we’re taking a moment to celebrate a significant milestone in our history. In September 2011, our very own CEO, Heidi Anderton, traveled to Kortrijk, Belgium, to represent England on the world stage.

    A Top 5 Global Finish

Competing in the World Team Grooming Championship, Heidi and her teammates faced off against the best groomers from across the globe. We are incredibly proud to remember that Groom Team England secured a brilliant 5th Place finish.

Heidi’s contribution was pivotal. Competing in the Poodle category – a class known for its technical difficulty and precision-she showcased the world-class scissoring and styling that she now passes on to her students at the London School of Pet Grooming.

    The 2011 “Dream Team”

Heidi wasn’t alone in this achievement. She was part of a powerhouse lineup of industry legends who all demonstrated exceptional skill in their respective categories:

    • Heidi Anderton: Poodle
    • Joanne Botwood: Spaniel and Setter
    • Peter Ensell: Purebred Scissor
    • Jitka Krizova: Handstrip

This team represented the peak of British grooming excellence, and their success in Belgium remains a highlight in the Groom Team England Hall of Fame.

    Continuing the Legacy

Heidi’s dedication to international competition has always been about more than just trophies; it’s about maintaining the highest standards for our grooming salon and training center. That same passion for perfection is what our clients see every day when they bring their pets to Absolutely Animals.
